A fine selection of Southeast Asian sculpture is now on view in the Gallery.
The currently selection includes Thai and Burmese sculpture executed in alabadaster, bronze and lacquered wood, dating primarily from the 18the and 19th centuries. We have tended to focus on Burmese sculpture which we believe is significantly undervalued, althought good pices are increasingly difficult to find. Aswith all Asian sculpture, the serenity of the countenance is of primary importance, and the pieces we have selected have the peaceful and contempalative epxression that is a defining characteristic of all Buddhaist sculpture.
